Captain Hunt

The Greenfield Police Department is currently led by Acting Chief of Police James Hunt. 
Acting Chief Hunt started his career in law enforcement in 1992 with the San Jose Police Department.  As an officer, he worked a variety of assignments including patrol and the Field Training Program.  As a detective, he worked the Sexual Assault Investigations Unit – General Sex Crimes Detail and the Family Violence Unit – Child Abuse and Threat Management Details. 
Acting Chief Hunt was promoted to sergeant in 2006.  As a sergeant, he worked as a field supervisor in patrol and worked investigative assignments in the Performance Analysis Detail and the Sexual Assault Investigations Unit – General Sex Crimes and Megan’s Law Details.  He was promoted to lieutenant in 2014 where he worked as a watch commander in the patrol division and as the Unit Commander of the Bureau of Field Operations Administration Unit.
Acting Chief Hunt retired from the San Jose Police Department in April of 2018. 
He started as a captain with the Greenfield Police Department shortly after.  Acting Chief Hunt holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Management from Union Institute and University and a Master of Science in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership from the University of San Diego. 
He is also a graduate of two leadership programs sponsored by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) - Sherman Block Leadership Institute and Command College Class 62.
