During the last three years, the City of Greenfield Redevelopment and Housing Department managed the only City-run U.S. Department of Labor Youthbuild grant in California. Since the beginning of the program in 2007, nearly 70+ at-risk youth have participated in the program. The program offers young people in the Salinas Valley the opportunity to develop marketable job skills through construction of affordable residential housing units available for sale to qualified Greenfield residents. By December of 2009, Greenfield Youthbuild students will have built four low-income affordable housing units. In addition, over 40 high school dropouts recommitted themselves to their educations and earned their high school diplomas while in Youthbuild.
