1. Fictitious Business Name Registration
When using a Fictitious Business name or “doing business as” (dba) you need to contact the County of Monterey to register your business name. California law requires that every person who regularly transacts business for profit under a fictitious name, file and publish a fictitious business name statement. Contact the County Clerk for additional information.

3. Selling
When involved in selling, you need to get a Seller’s Permit Number or Resale Number from the State Board of Equalization.

If you are selling food items, contact the Environmental Board of Health. Permits do not transfer if you take over an existing food business.

After the permit is approved by the Police Department, a city business license is required.
7. Taxi Cabs
Taxi Cab Companies must first obtain a Taxi Franchise from the City Council. Applications are obtained from the Police Department, which submits a staff report to the City Council, with recommendations for conditions and approvals.
If the City Council grants the franchise, the Taxi Cab Company must obtain a City Business License (Taxi Permit.)
Drivers must also obtain a taxicab license issued by the Greenfield Police Department. In addition, if applicant is an owner or owner/driver, a city business license must also be obtained.. Also required is proof of insurance (naming City of Greenfield), Certificate of Compliance for Brake Adjustment and Certificate of Adjustment for Lamp Adjustment (issued from Bureau of Automotive Repair).

NEW TAXI DRIVER APPLICANTS
(For Taxi Cab Companies licensed in the City of Greenfield)
The following documents are needed to obtain taxi driver permits:
- A completed Greenfield Police Dept. Taxi License Application
- Current drug test screening results
- A valid California Drivers License, with Chauffeurs License endorsement
- Two passport size photos of applicant
Please call (831) 674-5111 for an appointment to process your permit application.
Once fingerprint information is cleared and returned by Department of Justice (DOJ), you will be notified by mail to pick up your permit - good until June 30, of the next year. Driver’s permits are to be renewed annually prior to the expiration date. Drivers who allow their permits to expire before renewing them will be subject to the full fee and will be required to complete the entire process once again.
8. Before You Buy or Lease: Zoning conformance
Before you buy or lease a building, it is a good idea to check with Greenfield Planning to make sure that the proposed use is in conformance with the zoning for the property. In some cases, a Use Permit may be required which would add time to your approval process.
